Congrats! St Johns isn't too far from me. Are you going to commute or dorm or what if you decide to go there?
![]() 02/21/2014 at 11:53 |
|
I applied there for computer science thinking I could switch my major later on if I really wanted to, but my friend who goes there now doesn't think that's possible.
But yeah, I applied to computer science/programming and engineering to most of my schools.

Congrats mate :)
I keep forgetting how young some of you guys are.. I'll have a beer to celebrate for you, perhaps a Whisky as well.
Playing Helloween on full blast (reminiscing how it was to be young :P)

I live in Brooklyn, so if I go there I'll be dorming. Unless commuting gets me an excuse to have a car haha.
Just kidding I don't want to drive all the way there and back each day!

Thanks! And yup, I changed my name since everyone thought I was in my mid-20's with an STi and a stable job of some sort.
![]() 02/21/2014 at 11:59 |
|
Driving to that area is torture for me too, but I'm in Long Island, western Suffolk.
What part of Brooklyn, if you don't mind? I go to grad school in downtown
![]() 02/21/2014 at 11:59 |
|
Hehe, don't you worry mate, getting an STI is quite easy (always wear rubber :P). As for a stable job.. well, I'm betting quite a few of us "older" guys here don't have a stable job, we just do what we enjoy.

My dad grew up in Brooklyn and attended St Johns on a scholarship in the 1950s. He is a great guy so you should do okay. Granted, he can't tell the difference between a carburetor and a can of spam, but his ability to use the English language is second to none.
Congrats. Now where are you going to grad school?
![]() 02/21/2014 at 12:02 |

Well done! St. Johns is a great school!
I'm in the waiting game with my son as well. He got accepted by one of his "safety schools" so far but is still waiting on the "biggies." His top choice is the Air Force Academy but he's also waiting to hear from Yale, Cornell, Duke, four UC schools (Berkeley, LA, SD and Santa Cruz) and a couple others I'm forgetting.
![]() 02/21/2014 at 12:04 |

Just be careful at the parties, otherwise you'll end up with a different thing that starts with "ST-"

Congrats!
Quick advice though you're getting a lot- Get involved. Find groups who design things outside of class, or do SAE. That helps in the job search after you graduate.
Also software seems much easier to find jobs, so there's that. I'm currently in the job search and kinda regret not changing to software since I like it too.

Apply at SUNY Albany if you haven't already. I'm lonely.

Sheepshead Bay, it's kinda near Coney Island if that helps.

I sold my bike to a kid from Sheapshead Bay last year. Know anybody with a red 2012 CBR?
Also, St. John's is.... interesting. Talk to some people who went there for a few years before you decide.
Congratulations though. Hopefully you get accepted to every school to which you applied and can take the time to choose wisely. Trust me, it's a huge. fucking. decision. and it will impact the rest of your life profoundly.

Very thank you
Much kind
Wow
![]() 02/21/2014 at 12:50 |

Nope, I don't.
I'll do so if I can. I only know someone who is going there now, but it's her first year so I don't know if it'll help that much.
And thank you! The wait is really agonizing. I hope it's worth it.

Go on their website and read about the activities/orginazations/majors that you're interested in. Their will be testimonials/news stories about students who are involved. Find them on facebook and message them. It sounds creepy but it's not. Most students are more than willing to be ambassadors for their organization in recruiting new members.

Thanks! He managed to do well enough to get his congressional endorsement to Colorado Springs. He's upper percentile, ASB each year including Prez this year, has the grades, Varsity letters, and excellent high school internships and volunteerism. The only thing he's not at the top of were the SAT and ACT. He didn't do poorly by any stretch but he didn't quite score commiserate with the rest of his profile. It is super hard to get into the military academies, so that's really what he's worried about.
